Interior Demolition in Fort Wayne

Before a remodel can start, the old has to come out. Collier's handles interior demolition in Fort Wayne, from pulling a single kitchen to gutting a house down to the studs, and we take all of the debris with us.

Interior Demolition

Interior demo is the least glamorous and most underestimated part of any remodel. Cabinets, counters, tile, subfloor, drywall, ceilings, trim, old built-ins and fixtures all have to come out and get off the property before a single new thing goes in. Homeowners who start it themselves usually discover around day three that the tearing out was never the hard part. Hauling it was.

We do kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, drywall and ceilings, and full gut jobs down to the studs. Selective demo is normal too, where specific walls, rooms or finishes come out and everything else stays exactly as it is. We mark out what is staying with you first so nothing gets taken that should not.

We work with remodelers and general contractors on their schedule. If your crew needs the space empty and swept by Monday morning so they can start, that is the job. Getting the tear-out done cleanly and on time is often what keeps the rest of a build from slipping.

One thing worth raising early: if the building is older, anything you suspect might contain asbestos or lead has to be tested and handled by a licensed abatement contractor before demolition starts. We will flag it at the walk-through if we see something questionable. It is not a step to skip, and it is much cheaper to find out before the job than during it.

Debris goes out the same day where we can. Interior demo generates a genuinely surprising amount of weight, especially plaster, tile and old subfloor, so we plan the trailer loads around the size of the job instead of leaving a pile in the driveway for a week.

  • •Kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, drywall, ceilings and built-ins
  • •Full gut to the studs or selective room-by-room demo
  • •Contractor and remodeler schedules worked around
  • •All debris loaded and hauled off, not left in the driveway
  • •Space swept and ready for the next trade

WHAT THIS INCLUDES

Walking the space and marking what stays and what goes
Protecting the areas that are not part of the tear-out
Removing cabinets, fixtures, flooring, drywall and trim
Carrying everything out, including from upper floors
Hauling all debris off site
Sweeping the space so the next trade can start

WHAT AFFECTS THE PRICE

Every job is different, so we price off a walk-through rather than a number over the phone. These are the things that actually move it.

Square footage

One bathroom versus a whole floor is the single biggest driver.

What is coming out

Pulling cabinets is quick. Plaster, tile, mortar bed and old subfloor are slow and heavy.

Full gut or selective

Taking everything is often faster per square foot than carefully working around what stays.

Getting it out

Ground floor with a door nearby is easy. Second-story carry-downs and tight stairwells add real labor.

Debris weight

Plaster and tile weigh far more than drywall and cabinets, and disposal is charged accordingly.

Testing or abatement

If asbestos or lead is suspected, that work is handled by a licensed abatement contractor before we start.
